Covid: Israel, concern over acceleration in infections – Last Hour

(ANSAmed) – TEL AVIV, JUN 22 – The rapid growth of Covid infections, mostly attributed to the Delta variant, has alarmed the Israeli health authorities. After several weeks in which the daily number of new infections was less than 10, in recent days there has been a rapid acceleration and yesterday the total of new cases was 125, mostly among adolescents. The ministry of health has recommended vaccinating young people aged 12-15.

“We have already vaccinated 23,000 of them, with a first dose, without detecting significant repercussions,” the director general of the ministry Chezi Levy told the Ynet website. According to the press, their vaccinations are expected to be completed by the end of July.

The entry of new variants into Israel is attributed to visits by people to countries at risk. At the moment, according to Levi, the most dangerous are six: Russia, India, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and South Africa. The authorities appeal to the population not to go to those states at all. Today Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will carry out an inspection at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv to verify the effectiveness of health checks. (ANSAmed).
