In Southern California, a 17-year-old girl pushed away a brown bear that was entering her garden with her bare hands: an instinctive gesture to save her dogs who had lashed out at the bear. The meeting, as unexpected as it was dangerous, was recorded by the video surveillance camera of Hailey Morinico’s home – this is the name of the brave teenager – and the video was released by ABC News and quickly went viral on social media.
It happened in Bradbury, north-east of Los Angeles, where the young protagonist of this high-risk rescue has a home. Hailey was gardening with her mother in the backyard of their property when suddenly a female bear, of the black American species, walked up the wall of the house, followed by her two cubs. The barking dogs immediately attracted her attention and she, therefore, intervened immediately. The girl in addition to a slight bruise on her finger fortunately did not suffer any injuries.
