A lucky break for a group of fishermen from Yemen who found $ 1.5 million worth of ambergris in the belly of a sperm whale. The story was reported by the BBC. The cetacean carcass was floating in the Gulf of Aden when a small boat carrying 35 fishermen from the village of al-Khaisah and displaced from Hodeidah noticed it. And it was the fishermen of Hodeidah who recognized that it was a sperm whale, in whose belly is formed the rare and precious substance also called “floating gold” or “treasure of the sea” used in the perfume industry.
Donated part of the “teseroeo” to the most needy of the village

Unable to drag the animal ashore on their own, they asked nine other boats for help. Eventually more than 100 fishermen participated in transporting the whale to the coast. To avoid controversy, the men agreed on a percentage each before selling ambergris for a total of 1.3 billion Yemeni rials, about 1.5 million dollars. “We are all poor, we never expected to have such a figure. It’s incredible,” said one of them. The fishermen also donated part of the proceeds to the most needy in their village.
