Thirteen died from the eruption of the Semeru volcano in Indonesia. Almost a hundred are injured according to a new death toll confirmed by the agency for the management of disasters of the Asian country (Bpnb). The volcano erupted, causing a dense cloud of smoke and ash that quickly blanketed the entire area. Hundreds of people have been evacuated and the Bpnb confirmed in a statement that there are houses that have been practically covered.

Authorities have warned that the risk remains high, so they asked the population to pay attention. The disaster agency has started sending basic supplies to care for affected citizens, including food aid. The 3,700-meter volcano is the highest mountain on the island of Java, and has already erupted in December last year. Indonesia is located in the Pacific “ring of fire” where high seismic activity often occurs.
