Complaints for cases of trafficking in human beings in 2020 recorded an unprecedented peak in Tunisia (+ 150%) compared to 2019, according to the Tunisian minister for women, family and the elderly, Amel BelHaj Moussa, and almost half of these are also cases of rape of minors.
Speaking at the presentation of the annual report of the National Authority for the fight against trafficking in persons (Inltp) In 2020 there were 451 complaints against 181 in 2019. Cases of sexual abuse of minors represented 44.3% of the reports. The minister also spoke about the exploitation of children in organized crime, forced labor, sexual abuse and begging.

Sexual abuse recorded a 32% increase compared to 2019; similarly, the rate of child trafficking increased to 62.5%.
Moussa reiterated his commitment to combat human trafficking through the implementation of various programs and mechanisms.
An integrated public policy project for the protection of children will soon be submitted for approval by a Council of Ministers, pending the finalization of a bill on the protection of the elderly, he added.
