The US has issued the first passport with an X to indicate the third gender, a historic step for people who do not recognize themselves in the binary category male or female. The option will normally be available from early 2022, on both passports and birth certificates for Americans abroad. “I want to reiterate, on the occasion of the issuance of this passport, the commitment of the State Department to promote the freedom, dignity and equality of all people, including those of the LGBTQi community,” said spokesman Ned Price.
