A public humiliation for the former Pasdaran general Abedin Khorram, one of the highest political-military authorities in Iran. An employee of a unit of the Pasdaran themselves, the Islamic “guardians of the revolution” in power since 1979, quietly joined him on stage. Khorram, just appointed governor of the province of Eastern Azerbaijan (in the north-west of the country) did not even have time to defend himself: the stranger hit him in the face with a loud slap. Double humiliation, given that the ambush took place in the presence of the public and the Interior Minister of Tehran, Ahmad Vahidi.

The two were then separated from some present, who prevented the already critical situation from degenerating definitively. The attacker was then removed from security while the local prosecutor immediately opened an investigation. At the moment, the reason for the striking gesture is still unknown: political protest (with few precedents in the country, at least at this level) or, as local sources more likely claim, a banal private affair, “personal reasons” and long-standing rusts . In any case, the video published by the Irna agency has gone viral and has depopulated on social networks far beyond Iranian borders.
