(Updated at 10.50am) A traffic accident occurred this morning after 6am on the A2 northbound at Melano. According to what was communicated by the cantonal police, a 37 year old Italian motorist from the province of Lecco collided a vehicle in front of him with a 33 year old Italian from the province of Varese driving. The latter then hit the car that preceded him, driven by a 57 year old Italian from the province of Como.

The cantonal police officers, the SAM rescuers with three ambulances as well as the employees of the territorial unit 4 intervened on the spot for the restoration of the road field. Five people, including 37-year-olds and 33-year-olds, were transported by ambulance to the hospital. According to an initial medical evaluation, they sustained minor injuries. The vehicular transit was first managed on a single lane and then restored on the two lanes shortly before 7.30. Nonetheless, in a short time long queues were created on the A2 (already from Chiasso) and consequently also on the cantonal road.
