At least four Palestinians have died in various gun battles against Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, in what the Israeli army has called a security operation against the radical Hamas group. The clashes, as he said to Associated Press the Palestinian Minister of Health, occurred in various places in the West Bank, a territory that is partly under the control of the Palestinian Authority and partly under that of Israel and its army.
According to the health ministry, one Palestinian died in the northern city of Jenin, while three others in Biddu, north of Jerusalem.
According to the Israeli army, Israeli soldiers were making arrests when a Hamas militant opened fire on them. Naftali Bennett, the Israeli prime minister, said the army operation in the West Bank was carried out against Hamas members who were planning to carry out terrorist attacks.
