New hearing a Paris of the maxi-trial on the attacks of November 13, 2015 which caused the death of 130 people and hundreds of wounded between the Stade de France, the premises of the center of the capital and the Bataclan. Today, for the first time, the accused spoke briefly on the allegations. Among them there is also the only surviving kamikaze Salah Abdeslam who, already at the opening of the proceedings, claimed his adhesion to Isis. And taking the floor, he intervened to justify the massacre and blamed the French state for the attacks on the Islamic State.

“The French planes that bomb the Islamic State do not distinguish between men, women and children,” said Abdeslam. He and his accomplices, he added, wanted to “make France suffer the same pain we do”. For Salah, the “terrorists, radicalized jihadists” referred to up to now at the trial are actually “Muslims”: “it is authentic Islam – he continued – Francois Hollande he said we fought France because of its values, but it is a lie ”. And again: “I know that my sentences can shock, especially sensitive souls. But my purpose is not to turn the knife over in the wound. The least that can be said to the victims is the truth. When François Hollande made the decision to attack the Islamic State, he knew that his decision entailed risks. He knew that by taking that decision, some French would die ”.

The maxi-trial should take about 9 months. Begun on 8 September last, the registration of the civil parties and the summary of the facts took place in the last sessions. Then we focused on hearing the investigators who traced back to the jihadist commandos responsible for that tragic night of blood. The special court then heard the testimony of a head of the anti-terrorism directorate of the French judicial police. Later it was the turn of the Belgian anti-terrorism judge, Isabelle Panou. The sprawling investigation conducted in Europe and beyond made it possible to reconstitute the preparation and conduct of the ISIS-led attacks with a certain degree of precision. Though some points remain obscure, the investigators were able to identify in four years of work the clients, planners, bomb squads, and intermediaries of the cell, as well as the path of some of them from Syria, to Belgium, then to France, through the routes of migrants. For the first time since the beginning of the trial, the court, the advocates general, the lawyers of the civil parties or the defense were able to ask fundamental questions on the entire dossier.
