Météo France has issued the orange alert for 7 departments of Occitania for severe thunderstorms and high risk of flooding. This morning, violent storms with hail and lots of lightning struck the department of Gard, provoking floods, damage and many inconveniences. It seems that on the Vidourle basin, whose level has risen by 147cm, they have fallen about 150mm in less than 2 hours, while hail of 5cm hit the town of Boissières (see photo in the sliding gallery above and video at the bottom of the article).
In the southern sector of the Gard, floods are reported, as in Calvisson, and multiple roads are closed. Since this morning, they have occurred 12,000 lightning strikes on the area. These are violent thunderstorms that stay in the same area for a long time but still localized. Now the strong storm is rising towards Nîmes, which was also hit by floods.
