(ANSA) – MADRID, 09 SEPT – The fire that broke out last night in the province of Malaga, in southern Spain, burned more than 2,100 hectares of land in the municipalities of Jubrique, Estepona, Benahavís and Genalguacil: Carmen Crespo announced it , Regional Councilor for Sustainable Development of Andalusia.
The authorities evacuated more than 700 people residing in the area affected by the flames and cut off traffic on a stretch of the Ap-7 motorway (in two circumstances, this morning and then again in the early afternoon) and on two provincial roads .
Crespo explained to the reporters sent to the scene that it is a “fairly large” fire and that the strong wind, with “gusts of wind of more than 50 kilometers per hour”, has complicated the extinguishing operations in the past few hours.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, expressed his “solidarity” for the displaced people on Twitter. “I imagine their desolation and helplessness,” he wrote. (HANDLE).
