Girls, for us there is no chair, and perhaps there will be fewer and fewer

ANKARA, April 6, 2021 — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan 2nd R meets with European Council President Charles Michel 2nd L and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen 1st L in Ankara, Turkey, on April 6, 2021. Top officials of the European Union on Tuesday expressed readiness to work on concrete agenda with Turkey to push forward economy and migration cooperation between the two sides. There was certainly no need for that sucker Erdogan to know. But we must admit that seeing it like this, with the clarity of a tutorial, still makes a certain impression. Why, friends and sisters, let’s face it: this is not a world for women. The pandemic has already shown us this, with the cynical evidence of catastrophes, and by chance – pursuing its policy of retreating, of regression, of braking all kinds of modernity that mainly concerns rights – the Turkish bumpkin today has put him in images: in this world for us, sisters and friends, there is no chair. And if there was – earned at a high price – today it has either disappeared (in the hecatomb of jobs, activities, initiatives) or is occupied by someone else. Someone who does not have a greater right, and often not even greater skills. But he is male: his right to that chair is not even questioned, it is not the subject of widespread distinction, controversy, debate.

On the other hand, we cannot seriously think that the derailment to the right of many countries, and the stolid and lasting falling in love with “strong men” is without consequences, or premises, and does not touch that uncovered nerve, that gray area: women and their rights. And for a country that, finally, got rid of a well-known male chauvinist (the one who claimed, I remind you, that women “have to be grabbed from there”) and even has a vice president, black in addition (but this certainly does not reset disparities and inequalities, starting with salaries …), there are still too many presidents-bosses around, and, by now we know it well, it is a kind of infallible theorem: every form of racism, obscurantism, closure is always accompanied by as much dislike for women’s rights and the principles of equality. Without exception.
Thus, the women who are always asked the highest price of everything, the women who in this tragic year have lost their jobs three times more than men, and have taken the weight of the world on their shoulders at least twice as much, taking on themselves. every kind of care and assistance – of the sick, the frail, of children in prison and in Dad – today also had to attend this magnificent curtain, wanted and designed to have the strength of an apologue (no, it is not simple rudeness: it is a political act, and serious).
Girls, for us there is no chair, and perhaps there will be fewer and fewer. I guess we have to start taking it back or, better yet, try to build another one. Best. More comfortable. And the yokels sit on the ground and watch us. Maybe they learn something.
