The ocean catches fire. Literally. An underwater pipeline caught fire and the flames broke out.
The vast fire broke out in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, in Campeche Sound, a few meters from the Ku-Charly platform (within the Ku Maloob Zaap Integral Production Asset). Three boats lined up to put out the flames. The images are truly impressive.
The fire was extinguished without any injuries. Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) immediately sent specialized boats to control fires at sea to put out the fire with jets of water and nitrogen from above.
It happened in the southern Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Ciudad del Carmen, the nearest town about 105 kilometers away. It is not known what kind of environmental damage was caused by the fire.
Gas emissions at the point of the fire were also identified from space.
