We’ve probably seen it before, but we didn’t know its name. We are talking about the Lewisia cotyledon. It is a perennial succulent plant of American origin, with spectacular inflorescences. The flowers resemble those of daisies and can be pink-white, yellow-orange or reddish. The most sought after variant, however, is the “white splendor” with bright white petals.
This plant prefers semi-shaded and cool places. In any case, it resists well even in direct sunlight, as long as it is not too hot. Watering must be constant in the vegetative phase, but let’s avoid water stagnations. As soon as it has been purchased, it is advisable to repot it immediately and to place a layer of expanded clay on the bottom, to ensure good drainage.
Lewisia is a very hardy plant, perfect for decorating gardens, flower beds and balconies. We do not recommend keeping it indoors, where it would not be able to give the best of itself. It may start flowering as early as March, although the best time is from May onwards.
