The companies that develop the most popular web browsers, that is Google (Chrome), Apple (Safari), Microsoft (Edge) e Mozilla (Firefox), I’m hard at work creating one development standards for extensions.

These four giants created the WebExtensions Community Group (WECG), a group that aims to make it easier for developers to create extensions, specifying core functionality and API, and outline an architecture capable of improve the performance and security of extensions.

The group also stated: “We don’t aim to specify every aspect of the web extension platform. We want browsers to continue innovating and delivering APIs that can serve as a basis for further improvement of the web extension platform “. In simple terms, we are not working on a system to create universal extensions, but efforts are being made to simplify the work of developers by defining common guidelines to follow.
