The protagonists are always the same: the Icelandic volcano Fagradalsfjall and the DJI FPV drone. Only this time the story told a different ending, because the latest images transmitted by the drone flying over the mouth of the volcano showed the sad end of one of the protagonists: the DJI was hit by the eruption and destroyed.
Fagradalsfjall has been awake for two and a half months now and, together with tourists and onlookers, he has also attracted photographers and therefore drones from all over the world. The video in question is the work of filmmaker Joey Helms.
The images illustrate the DJI FPV that goes up the lava river of the Icelandic volcano and then seems to voluntarily bend towards the mouth, so much so that, even watching the video several times, it seems to be a precise choice of Helms.
Helms’ intention, we read in the video description, was however to fly the drone as close as possible to the lava river and the caldera: which he did all too well and cost him a DJI FPV which, according to him, it was also brand new.
