Santa Monica Studio announced the postponement of the follow-up God of War for PS5, known among fans as God of War Ragnarok.

The game was presented last year as the second chapter of the saga of the “new” Kratos and his son Atreus.

The reveal had surprised fans since it ended with a very bold launch window, set for a generic 2021.

Since then, there have been very negative comments about the possibility of day one being really doable for this year.

The news of the postponement of the sequel to God of War was given via Twitter by Santa Monica Studio, the software house behind the intellectual property.

«Since the release of our teaser of God of War last year, we were honored by the amount of love our community has shown us “, reads the open letter published on Twitter.

“We are incredibly grateful to see that so many people are excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey”, continue, before sinking the blow like this:

“We remain focused on delivering top quality game while we maintain the safety and well-being of our team, creative partners and families.

With that in mind, we made the decision to move our launch window to 2022».

Santa Monica Studio concludes its message by anticipating that “We have some exciting things in the works that we can’t wait to show you.”

For the moment, therefore, God of War Ragnarok remains without a release date, since the postponement is to be determined.

After all, the game does not yet have a real title, despite the information leaked directly from Sony recently seemed to state the opposite.

The new chapter could also reserve big surprises, including an Atreus in the role of the protagonist for at least some time.

The Californian software house has more in the works, as confirmed today, and it has long been known that it is planning a new fantasy IP.
