Baldo, the Zelda-like inspired by the style of Studio Ghibli, has returned to show itself with a 13 minute gameplay video, which you can see above. In this game, coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we will control Baldo, a child from the Kidoge Village. In this video we can see some sections of the game, with some cuts designed to avoid spoilers.
Baldo, like any good Zelda-like, will rely heavily on exploration. In the movie we see that Baldo explores the village and completes a series of simple side missions, unlocking shortcuts and obtaining various resources. In fact, the inhabitants assign tasks of various kinds and give suggestions on where to find new rewards.
In the video we can also see a dungeon, which Baldo enters by mistake by falling into a hole in the ground. At the beginning of the dungeon, there is a kind of robot stuck by a tree, which brings to mind the machinery style of Laputa – Castle in the Sky. After a cut, we see that Baldo gets an object from the robot, and a talking owl claims that our protagonist is “the chosen one”, a pure hearted child. His task will be to counteract a “heartless” evil who is about to awaken.
For the moment, we can see that the game has one interesting graphic style, although clearly – as an indie project – it doesn’t reach the same technical level as bigger works like Ni no Kuni. Now, there is nothing left to do but find out the release date of Baldo.
We also know that Baldo will contain a nice quote from The Secret of Monkey Island.
