Sony Corporation has released financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year, which ended on September 30th. There are also updates from the PlayStation division, so let’s find out how much PS5 has sold to date.

Specifically, during the summer quarter Sony distributed 3.3 million PS5 and 200,000 PS4 consoles, in total PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 PRO reached 116.7 million units distributed from 2013 to 30 September last while PS5 reaches 13.4 million consoles distributed worldwide since November 2020.

The proceeds of the PlayStation division grew by 27% on an annual basis thanks to the driving force of the sales of PlayStation 5 and third party games, Instead, sales of PlayStation Studios games are dropping in the quarter indicated. Profits have dropped compared to the same period of 2020 and the reason is to be found in the decline in PS4 hardware sales and in the small profits obtained by every single PS5 sold.

Sony finally announces that as of September 30th there are 47.2 million subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service while the PlayStation Network can count on 104 million active users on a monthly basis. In the coming months PlayStation Studios will release a new series of games such as Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok, all due out in 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
