First doses fall despite the green pass, for Bassetti to be evaluated for release only to recovered and vaccinated people

Even the director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the San Martino Polyclinic in Genoa, Matteo Bassetti, certifies the decline in new vaccinated people, despite the extension of the green pass obligation, and proposes a solution. “Yesterday (23 October 2021 ed.) In Italy less than 10 thousand first doses of vaccine – underlines the infectious disease specialist – from 75 thousand on October 14. The green pass as it is no longer pushes as we hoped it would”.

“Perhaps it would be worth reviewing it – he continues -, releasing it only to those who are vaccinated or already immune to a previous infection and making it mandatory only for certain activities / tasks. To be safe we must reach 90% of the general population immune by Christmas”.

“We must also push more on third doses to the frail, the elderly and the health professionals. We have a good advantage that we must know how to administer. Let’s look at what is happening around us. Things are going well but it is not the time to give up”, Bassetti concludes.

The table below also includes third doses and is from the government website.

At the Adnkronos Bassetti also commented on the latest data from the covid monitoring of the control room of the Higher Institute of Health-Ministry of Health. The slight increase in the Rt index and incidence, which are rising from week to week, “need not worry”: they are “data to be watched over, but let’s look at the hospitals where the covid wards are almost empty,” Bassetti said.

“With 85% of the population over 12 vaccinated with at least one dose, and adding those who are naturally immune because they made the antibodies (having contracted the infection) we are in great safety and little is certain – continues the infectious disease specialist -. But if we then assume that the approval of the European Medicines Agency Ema for the vaccine in children of 5-11 years will arrive very soon, in the next 2-3 months we will be in absolute safety “.

“The Rt index must certainly be looked at, but there have been other times in which it has grown, as is also happening with the incidence, in any case in the face of a hospital situation under control – analyzes Bassetti -. We must change the way we look at this infection. In a first phase like last year we could talk about incidence because there was no protective effect of vaccines, and therefore having so many cases also meant having many seriously ill patients, intensive care hospitalizations and deaths “.

“Today everything is different – remarks the infectious disease specialist -. We must not look at the RT and the incidence: certainly we need to be vigilant, but hospital admissions must be kept under observation, where it seems to me that the situation is absolutely manageable without the need to open new departments or to put resources on the covid by moving them from other pathologies “.

Bassetti also highlights the problems that could arise in the near future. “The cold months await us where we will have an increase in general respiratory diseases, the flu and the covid will be able to pull up our heads again, but I don’t think – he concludes – that we will get to see the numbers of the past”.
