Facebook continues to develop the app of Instagram, inserting new functions into the code that make it more convenient and more useful to use. In particular, Facebook is integrating the Instagram platform very closely with that of Messenger, to allow users of the two worlds of communicate with each other as if they were on one platform.
Last year, the first piece of this strategy was announced, and then launched: Instagram and Messenger users can chat with each other using their apps, without having to download the other one as well. According to Facebook, it worked: over 70% of users who were able to try this feature have already done so. Now another novelty arrives: Instagram users can participate in group chat Messenger (and vice versa). It was the last missing piece for the total integration between Instagram Direct and Messenger, also because this new function brings with it further news for instagrammers, such as polls and Watch Together “Cross-Platform“. To enable all these novelties it is necessary update the app: if they are not there yet, then it is only a matter of days, if not hours.
Instagram and Messenger: group chats
With the latest update of the Instagram and Messenger apps there is no longer any platform difference for users of one or the other service: Facebook calls everything “Cross-app communication“. With this update, people can start group chats between their Instagram and Messenger contacts.
Not only can Instagram users enter the Messenger group chats, it is also possible to do the opposite: the Instagram user can create a group chat by choosing the participants among the users of both platforms, as long as they are among his contacts. From the point of view of the interface, nothing changes, as also for the controls dedicated to privacy.
The Instagram user can still choose by whom to be contacted, who can send him a message, a call or an invitation to a group chat or videochat. Furthermore, it is now possible to see in real time which group chat users are typing something: their profile icons appear next to the three moving dots.
The other news of Instagram
Since last year, the “Watch Together“, Which is used to see a video posted on Facebook, even live, together with other friends in a group chat. With the integration between Instagram and Messenger, therefore, now the Watch Together becomes “cross-platform“: In practice an Instagram user can see content with friends, regardless if they have an Instagram or Messenger profile.
But not only: to make the procedure easier, the possibility of watching the contents has been introduced directly from the Instagram feed, together with friends. Just start a video chat within Instagram, scroll to the post you want to share, then click the share button and activate Watch Together directly from the feed.
