Always remain connected even when in the car, while avoiding dangerous distractions: this has always been the goal of Android Auto, the platform derived from the Google operating system and designed to work in combination with the smartphone on car displays. Google presented just a few days ago some important news coming in the coming months in this sector.
Google Assistant now presents a completely new guide mode: simply by saying the command “Hey Google, let’s drive“, Or by connecting to the car via Bluetooth, it will be possible to view all the information useful for driving on a single screen. A convenient display of panels relating to calls, messages and content playback will allow you to avoid continuous touches to the smartphone and remain more concentrated behind the wheel. Also on Assistant there is another new feature that makes it possible, on request, to have the smartphone read the incoming messages aloud and reply automatically.
Google therefore intends to concentrate the driving features on the Assistant app, already implemented on most of its devices, making the additional Google Auto application for smartphones obsolete. On the other hand, Android Auto is in excellent health for the car infotainment systems. In the new version of Android Auto, Google anticipates, it will be possible to view Assistant’s suggestions for playing content.
Minigames have also been added to Android Auto in collaboration with GameSnacks, obviously to be used only when the car is stationary, in addition to other technical improvements such as the choice of the SIM on which to make calls for devices capable of hosting two of them and support for the mode. “Work” to view professional messages and appointments on the way to the office.
The latest news announced by Google concerns the partnership with the car manufacturer Honda. In fact, starting in 2022, Honda will start producing vehicles with integrated Android Automotive. Not to be confused with the aforementioned Android Auto, Android Automotive is not a platform, but a full-fledged Android build, independent of connection with a smartphone.
With a view to greater environmental sustainability, Google is also committed to reserving special services for electric cars. The version of Google Maps for Android Automotive will in fact be customized to report compatible charging stations, as well as providing the user with real-time information on the vehicle’s battery status.
