The semiconductor crisis has pushed gamers to spend crazy bucks on a next-generation video card. There are those who have given up, hoping to be able to buy a GPU at a retail price. But there comes a “solution” from one of the most popular games ever: The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim offers you one GeForce RTX 3080 brand new! There is only one small detail: it is not real and you will find it in the game world thanks to a modder with a questionable sense of humor.
A new Skyrim mod “gives you” an RTX 3080
MobinWeekend is the name of the modder who jokingly put an RTX 3080 into Skyrim. The file has been uploaded to Nexus Mods: once installed, RPG players will be able to get their hands on one of the most desired – and nowhere to be found – objects.
It is of course about a mockery, a way like any other to make fun of shortage which has bent the electronic market, but for gamers it is also an opportunity to try one of the most bizarre, and potentially useless, mods dedicated to the timeless Bethesda RPG. “Download this mod to get an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 in Skyrim! Forget the Nexus promise of a 3070 Ti, download your 3080 right now!”, writes the modder.
Gamers and aspiring miners will find a virtual model of the RTX 3080 in the Whiterun district, resting on the edge of a well. The card cannot be wielded as a weapon, nor thrown at enemies: players can only observe it and admire it in all its glory.
Returning to the real world, the situation related to the shortage seems to get worse. According to the analysis of the German portal 3DCenter.org, the decrease in the price lists of the latest generation video cards of NVIDIA e AMD it stopped and, on the contrary, prices have risen slightly again. In the specific case of the GeForce RTX 3000, the prices of the cards range from + 17% on the MSRP for the RTX 3080 Ti up to a +74% regarding the aforementioned RTX 3080.
Speaking of Skyrim, in August Bethesda Softworks announced the Anniversary Edition role play. Exactly 10 years after its debut on consoles and PC, the fifth chapter of The Elder Scrolls will return to next-generation platforms – including PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X|S – bringing with it all the contents of the Special Edition and the beauty of 500 mod (Creation Club).
