The closing of the investigation against TIM and DAZN was accompanied by a long Antitrust document containing important information on the next steps that DAZN and TIM intend to take for customers.
In particular, as can be read in the AGCM document, TIM and DAZN have confirmed that DAZN customers who live in areas where a good internet connection is not available, will be able to purchase a DAZN set top box as a priority “which will allow them to use the digital terrestrial backup which will be accessible only and only in the event of actual problems (with access only through the DAZN app installed therein)“Basically, therefore, this is a confirmation of the rumors about the launch of a DAZN decoder that had emerged in the past.
The document states that DAZN set top boxes (which will have hardware similar to that of TIMVision) will be made available for purchase “upon demonstration, at least in a first phase, of the applicant’s place of residence within the Identified Areas, or of being in a location with a similar infrastructure deficit relating to the Internet network with limited access to broadband / ultra-broadband Internet, and at the same time or after the subscription to the DAZN service“.
Given the chip shortage, TIM and DAZN agreed that in the start-up phase, the set top boxes will be provided by TIM based on a series of agreements drawn up between the parties: “TIM undertakes to supply DAZN up to [10.000-80.000] (of which [10.000-40.000] by next 10 August e [10.000-60.000] – at the request of DAZN – between 30 September and 31 December 2021 by 31 December 2021 as well as others [10.000-80.000] STB by 31 December 2022” it is read.
The backup function, which makes the switch on the digital terrestrial of the matches, will also be available on TIMVision under the same conditions as those of DAZN.
But be careful: the Serie A broadcast on digital terrestrial will only take place for the seven matches for which DAZN has the exclusive rights: the other three, which will also be broadcast by Sky, will only be visible in streaming.
