In early February, some users of Android Auto have complained about problems with Google Maps, resolved a few weeks later, so the app couldn’t show the “Blue line” of the route to follow in navigation.

After being corrected on the Google platform, the bug seemed to have occurred moved your CarPlay: in addition to the lack of the path, they were present problems with the GPS and displaying your position on the map. Fortunately, these issues have been partially resolved starting with Maps for CarPlay version 5.71, and with the later version 5.72 they seem to be totally correct.
You can see the current version of the app by going to the Settings of Google Maps and clicking on Iinformation, terms and privacy. To update, just go to App Store.
