The Venetian champion, winner of Liège, Amstel and Freccia Vallone in 2004, is the oldest of the group: “I feel like part of my family”

Today Davide Rebellin turns 50. Born in 1971, professional since 1992, the champion from Lonigo (Vicenza) in 2004 won in 8 days Amstel Gold Race, Freccia Vallone (later conquered twice more) and Liegi. In this 2021, raced with the shirt of Work Service Marchiol Vega, he is disputing the 29th season as a professional with flattering results – for his age: he has entered the top ten three times.

Her words

Waiting for the next engagement at the Tour of Romania (31 August-5 September), today is the opportunity to take stock of his experience with the training of the president Demetrio Iommi and the patrons Renato Marin, Massimo Levorato and Giuseppe Lorenzetto: “This team is like a second family for me – says Davide -. They welcomed me with incredible enthusiasm. All this gave me further motivation to get involved. Unfortunately I had to deal with a bit of bad luck at the Coppi and Bartali Week and at the Giro di Sardegna which prevented me from fighting all the way for the results I would have liked. Fortunately I have fully recovered from both crashes and now, after this period of work on the heights at Sestriere, I am ready for a season finale that will see me competing in all the events of the Italian calendar ». Rebellin – 61 career successes – took part in 19 Grand Tours and 46 Monumento Classics. Numbers that only partially convey the idea of the value and professionalism of the Venetian who has not yet decided whether he will continue to run or not. “I will certainly continue pedaling – he continues – because I like it and I have no intention of giving up: it remains to be seen if I will do it again as a professional or as a simple enthusiast. I allowed myself some time until September to calmly run the end-of-season races that I like most and then choose whether to be satisfied with having competed up to the age of 50 or to continue. There is still some time to think about it and to talk about it with the club that this year has allowed me to return to racing in Italy ”.
