Williams, a puncture for Russell and Latifi in the final laps in Qatar

Russell and Latifi tried to make only one stop in the Qatar Grand Prix, but in the end both the front left of the Brit and that of his team mate had a puncture a few laps from the end and almost simultaneously. George managed to return to the pits and finish the race, while the Canadian, having no sign of the failure of his tire, was forced to retire having practically punctured at the last corner and well beyond the entrance to the pits.

“Today we adopted for an aggressive strategy, we were trying to extend the last stint as long as possible – Russell admitted. With all those right-hand corners at high speed, the tires would always be on the limit, but we had to push to fight with the Alfa Romeos. Unfortunately the front left gave way a few laps from the end, it was a pity that our race ended like this, but we had nothing to lose, as our direct rivals did not score any points ”.

“We tried to make the strategy work at a stop, knowing that we would reach the limit with the tires – Latifi said. The surprising thing is that I had absolutely no puncture warning, so I was unable to get into the pits in time. Even knowing George’s problem, I thought I would be able to finish the race because I didn’t have any problems. In my opinion, the strategy was the right one, because we were ahead of the Alfa Romeos and we couldn’t do more. Too bad it didn’t go well, but the car performed well on this circuit ”.
