Giro d’Italia 2021, Remco Evenepoel: “I’ll start from Turin with the aim of gaining experience and helping Almeida”

It will not be Remco Evenepoel the man of the Deceuninck-QuickStep which will aim for the Maglia Rosa al Giro d’Italia 2021. Already in recent weeks, the Belgian talent had stated that he looks to the Italian GT more as a preparation for the summer than a concrete goal, and the 21-year-old himself reiterated this in an interview with Procycling. After the terrible accident last August at Lomabrdia, the former junior world champion will make his return to competitions at the Corsa Rosa, which will therefore also be his seasonal debut (in addition to his absolute debut in a Grand Giro), where Evenepoel will aim above all to gain experience and to help the teammate Joao Almeida in the assault on the Maglia Rosa.

“I’m sorry, but this year I won’t win – said the young talent – I will leave from Turin with the aim of gaining experience. Our man for the general classification will be Joao Almeida. Almeida and I are good companions. He worked for me in the past, now I will do the same for him. Together with Masnada and Honoré we will have the task of helping João reach the highest possible level. Last year he narrowly lost the podium ”.
