Valentino Rossi 16th in the second MotoGP round in Doha. The soft at the rear is his true Achilles heel: “Let’s shuffle the cards on the other tracks”.
Valentino Rossi remains out of the points zone in the second MotoGP round in Qatar. Starting from the last row, he paid the price of the soft at the rear more than any other opponent. A problem that has been dragging on for too long, but that gets stronger when he is forced to mount the soft tire at the rear. “Friday and Saturday was really black, we struggled. Last night we talked and changed a few things and today I was able to ride better. There are some small positive things, but it is still difficult. I expected to be in the group where Franco was and he expected to be in the front group“.
It seems almost absurd to note that Valentino Rossi lapped with a better pace than last Sunday. In the first 2021 MotoGP Grand Prix, the champion from Tavullia finished in 12th place, obtaining the first 3 points in the standings. “Today I went faster than last Sunday, I went 10 ″ faster, only everyone went much faster. In reality, on Friday and Saturday I also suffered with the hard tires, even in FP1 and FP3 we tried to do something to save the tire, but we took the wrong direction“.
Soft is Vale’s real problem
In the warm-up, the Doctor mounted hard on the front and rear. It seemed that it could be a counter-current strategy, but the Doha circuit does not allow this type of risk. “This morning I was fast with the hard, I had a good pace, I did 1’55 ″ 2. The problem is that here we all run with the soft ones and I suffer with the soft ones. Behind I start to slip, as if for some reason I stress her too much. Then it starts vibrating so I always have to slow down. But the tires are the ones for everyone so you have to go with them. The cards, however, can be mixed better on other tracks where other tires are used“.
How is it possible to find a solution to the lack of rear grip that has been dragging on for almost two years? “Already in the Barcelona 2019 test we tried some improvements and from there I started having a lot of problems with the tires. Today it went better, from this point of view we improved because we put old stuff (laughs, ed). But it’s tough, because everyone is strong – concludes Valentino Rossi -. In the first laps I lost too much, but let’s see …“.
