These are spectacular aerial shots dated at the beginning of March 2021 after the reopening of all 18 holes at the end of renovations focused exclusively on the design of a course designed for match play. The redesign was led by European Golf Design in collaboration with Tom Fazio II.

The first nine holes were completed and reopened in October 2020. In addition to extensive work on the golf course, the clubhouse and training facilities are still being refurbished. All in view of the Italian Open 2021 (from 2 to 5 September). The Guidonia Montecelio race will arrive three weeks before the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.

A Ryder Cup and three Italian Open

Two more editions of the Italian Open will then be played at Marco Simone in 2022 and 2023, before becoming the third venue in continental Europe to host the Ryder Cup. Previously there were Valderrama in Spain (1997) and Le Golf National in France (2018).

Playing at Marco Simone will allow spectators to see unparalleled points of view of the unfolding of the game on the pitch and distant glimpses of the Eternal City. From the fairways you will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of St. Peter’s Basilica and Marco Simone’s Castle, the only backdrop to the largest team golf competition.

“Ryder Cup in Rome, a pride”

Per Franco Chimenti (president of Federgolf) “the award of the Ryder Cup is a source of pride for the entire national sports movement. The inimitable setting of Rome will embellish the event, making it unique. The project for the restyling of the race course is what we have always imagined. Not only that: it is, above all, what those who believed in it imagined. Our commitment continues with the support of the institutions and our official advisor, Infront. There is full harmony with the board of Ryder Cup Europe and Marco Simone ”.

From one vertex to the other, that is Guy Kinnings, director of the European Ryder Cup. “After the completion of the golf course – he says – all the interventions are aimed at making the Ryder Cup fantastic. There is a wonderful course in an iconic city with 24 of the best players on the planet who will compete in 2023 ”.

He echoes him Lavinia Biagiotti, president of the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. “Hosting the Ryder Cup 2023 for us is not just a dream come true, but the beginning of a new journey. Our motto is Playing the future and we are committed to nurturing the next generation of golfers. We are ready to host champions and amateurs from all over the world. We believe that the Ryder Cup is important for Marco Simone, for Italian golf and for golf worldwide ”.

Those who work 24 hours a day at the Ryder Cup in Rome are Gian Paolo Montali, general manager. “Marco Simone hosted an Italian Open in 1994, but now it will no longer be the same. The Ryder Cup will be a different event. At the beginning it was thought of a slight restyling of the course, but it was completely redesigned thinking of eco-sustainability as a legacy even after the Ryder Cup 2023 ″.
