ALA. Make the many cyclists who travel the streets of Trentino as safe as possible and raise awareness of correct behavior in the vehicle-bicycle interaction. This is the objective linked to the signs with the message “Respect the cyclist” that the Autonomous Province of Trento is positioning along the 23 “Salite del Trentino”. Among these, Sega di Ala, the arrival destination of stage 17 of the next Giro d’Italia (starting from Canazei).
It is in the locality of Lessinia in Trentino that today, Thursday 1 April 2021, the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento met, Maurizio Fugatti, and the cycling champion Maurizio Fondriest, by bike for the occasion, for a greeting followed by the unveiling of one of the two signs just placed by the Road Management Service. With them the provincial technicians and the mayors of Ala and Avio.
“We are in this location in Trentino, the destination of the next stage of the Giro which will touch the Municipalities of Ala, Avio, Mori, Brentonico in Vallagarina, to present an important initiative together with Maurizio Fondriest”, President Fugatti began. “A project in great demand by the Trentino sports and cycling world and which aims to raise awareness among motorists on respecting distances. To make it possible is the installation of almost a hundred signs posted on mountain roads, and not only, by our Road Management Service in view of the summer season in particular ”.
The cycling champion Fondriest appreciated the project and also focused on the next stage on May 26 in which Trentino will be the protagonist. “It is important to sensitize motorists – he said – about correct driving behavior. I am too, every year I drive 40 thousand kilometers. So I see what happens on the roads. People need to be made aware of mutual respect. Cyclists need to know that they have to behave in a certain way on the road, but at the same time, motorists need to understand that the cyclist is a weak user and they have to respect him. Those who get angry when they are in front of bicycles should think that they too may have children, grandchildren, relatives who ride a bike at home and would not want a loved one to be hit by some careless motorist “.
