A question of feeling
I need stay more on the bike, I have to do a complete race to understand it better: in tests and practice I could not do more than 7 consecutive laps.
Our program hasn’t changed much since last GP: we need to find one trim tuning, very different from that of the others. Unfortunately we only tried here, with very little time available. I knew it would be difficult, but I’m not worried and racing here again allows us to understand any tuning improvements.
Aerodynamics and top speed
Lower maximum speed? Here there is a very long straight that does not favor us, this bike goes very fast when there is little grip. In Austria, from what I remember, he was very fast in 2020, because he came out of the corners very fast. But we have a big difference in top speed and that is tenths that add up. KTM has a compact and tapered aerodynamics, for me, being older, it is one more problem. The disadvantage here is particularly high because the other bikes have traction.
The shoulder, a problem?
Shoulder? i am doing treatments. it hurt a lot when I crashed, Monday and Tuesday, now it’s improving, I hope it’s not a problem during the year. I worked on it a lot in the winter, I don’t want it to be a problem, I don’t want to have any physical excuses.
Comparison with other KTM riders
Finishing the race is the minimum, but as a driver I also want to achieve results, fight with other KTM riders, see how they ride in the race, what I can do, how to improve lap by lap, how the front tire is doing. But I also want to try to go fast and make a positive result.
In FP4 I had been quite consistent: I start from there and from the progress made during the days of the GP. It was also good that I didn’t get hurt after a pretty hard hit.
