“In Lombardy we have the variant as the main variant in June alfa, the English one, at 64% and the Indian divided in two: the Delta variant at 3.2 per cent and K at 0.8. Then there are the Brazilian at 1 and 1 a.m. South African to 2 percent – said the commissioner Letizia Moratti -. This is the picture that presents higher numbers than last week because we have sequenced them all and that raises the numbers compared to the variants. Vaccines are the most effective weapon. “And precisely on vaccines, the region has reached and exceeded the threshold of 8 million doses of anti-Covid vaccines. The Delta variant is however in constant evolution. In addition to the best known version, called B.1.617.2, there are two others: la B.1.617.1, B.1.617.2 e B.1.617.3, less worrying than the Delta and now also distinct by name, since they are both called Kappa. The full name of the Delta Plus is B.1.617.2.1, indicating the close relationship with the Delta variant (B.1.617.2), from which it is distinguished above all by a mutation, the K417N, which has ‘stolen’ the Beta variant seen for the first time in South Africa. This mutation is also found in the Spike protein, the molecular harpoon with which the virus invades cells.
