Rome, June 22, 2021 – La Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rome opened an investigation file against the policeman who on Saturday afternoon shot a 44-year-old Ghanaian citizen who was brandishing a knife in via Giolitti, next to Termini station, in the center of the capital. It is investigated, according to what is learned, for culpable excess in the legitimate use of weapons, but it would be, they leaked by the Prosecutor’s Office, of a due deed to proceed with the required checks.
The African citizen, illegal in Italy and with a criminal record, is currently hospitalized, in detention, at Umberto I Polyclinic and it is not life threatening. The scene was filmed by a passer-by: the man is seen threatening him with a knife agents surrounding him, then at one point one of them explodes with a gunshot.
Meloni: “The necessary action was to intervene and disarm him”
The news sparked the reaction of Giorgia Meloni, president of the Brothers of Italy: “The policeman who injured and stopped theillegal immigrant which had sown panic at the Termini station in Rome ”.
Meloni then expressed “unconditional solidarity with the agent: the only necessary act was to intervene to stop an extremely dangerous subject, who threatened the police with a knife and could harm citizens and passers-by. Fratelli d’Italia is alongside ours men and women in uniform who risk their lives every day to guarantee our safety ”.
Delmastro: “Agent under investigation? Enough with the rhetoric “
Also protest Andrea Delmastro, deputy of the Brothers of Italy and justice manager of the party led by Giorgia Meloni: “Act had to investigate the policeman? Enough of this rhetoric! The only act due – Delmastro wrote in a note – was disarm a thug Ghanaian, convicted and armed with a knife that sowed panic in Termini station “.
