Pope Francis wreaks havoc on Catholic movements and associations by imposing a decennial spoil system on everyone by decree. With a decree already signed, no one will be able to stay in charge of their leadership for more than ten years, because otherwise inner circles are created and the charisma is abused.

The same rules obviously apply to everyone else, even if Catholic Action already changes leadership every 3 years – and all associations and ecclesial movements that call themselves Catholic (which they can only do with explicit Vatican authorization). In the history of the Church no Pope had ever done this and had intervened so heavily in the internal life of free associations of believers. But Francis has always been wary of ecclesial movements and few have managed to enter his heart …
