The capital was hit by a powerful storm that in a few minutes flooded large areas of the city, especially the northernmost districts. Tuesday 8 June in the early afternoon, the firefighters evacuated forty children and six of the school staff got stuck inside a nursery in via Castelnuovo di Porto, near Ponte Milvio, due to a flood due to the strong storm that hit Rome in the afternoon.
North Rome flooded
All have been secured in a nearby hotel. I
parents were contacted to be able to pick them up. Thunder, heavy rain and, in some areas, even hail created the chaos in motor traffic, also due to several floods from the center to the periphery. Several interventions for bad weather carried out so far by the firefighters, between the areas most affected: Corso Francia, Ponte Milvio, Prati, Montemario and Nomentano.
The political storm
Strong slowdowns on the Grande Raccordo Anulare and on the eastern ring road, but also in the central streets it is difficult to circulate, with motorists forced to proceed at walking pace due to flooding. The weather alert issued by the regional civil protection provides heavy rain throughout the day. After the meteorological storm, the political one and the chaos created by the flooding became the theme to attack the mayor Virginia Raggi. “If we continue not to keep the manholes clean, we risk having to borrow the Mose from Venice”, he writes on social media Roberto Gualtieri, Pd deputy and candidate for the center-left primaries for the Capitol. Carlo Calenda – the leader of Action and candidate for mayor – instead, asks Raggi what happened: «We need to understand. If you have an idea, explain it to the citizens ».
