There are 24 fencing blues who will take to the platform from 24 July to 1 August to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. After a long and brilliant qualification process, in fact, the Italian national team has won the right to participate in all the competitions scheduled for the Games in Japan.
First time in all specialties
For the first time in Olympic history, therefore, the fencing tricolor will be present in all 12 competitions, six individual and as many in teams. The goal of the blue expedition, led by the technical commissioners Andrea Cipressa for foil, Sandro Cuomo for the sword and Giovanni Sirovich for the saber, is to keep faith with a tradition of great blazon, which makes fencing the sport that has given more medals Olympic games to Italy, as many as 125, of which 49 gold. In the men’s foil the individual test will see the Rio 2016 Olympic champion, Daniele Garozzo, on the platform, together with Alessio Foconi and the veteran Andrea Cassarà. Giorgio Avola will be with them in the team event. The Italy of women’s foil, on the other hand, will be represented by Alice Volpi, Arianna Errigo and Martina Batini in the individual, which will be joined by Erica Cipressa for the team competition.

Garozzo, Fichera and Santarelli try again
In the men’s epee double commitment for Enrico Garozzo, Marco Fichera and Andrea Santarelli, all three competing five years ago in Brazil when the blue team won silver.
