Not only the vote – first approved and then revoked – on the A league stew. From the Lega assembly that was held today, the green light to the call for the television rights of the Italian Cup and of Italian Super Cup, with reference to the three-year cycle 2021-2024.
It is one of the last competitions whose rights for the next three football seasons have yet to be assigned. As is known, the Italian Cup will change format from 2021/22 and the goal of Lega Serie A is to increase revenues.
The minimum target for the call was established in 42 million euros per season, an amount higher than that paid by Rai for the three-year period 2018-2021, when the State TV put on the plate 35.5 million euros per season, overtaking Mediaset, which stopped at 33 million.
The growth is even more evident if we compare the minimum figures for the next three years to those collected by Serie A for the seasons from 2015 to 2018, when it was always Rai that won the rights for about 22 million per year.
For the national cup – and for the Super cup – in recent months there has been rumors of an interest on the part of Mediaset, that could try again the assault on the two competitions right after the failed attempt of 2018.
For the next three football seasons, the Cologno Monzese TV has already won 121 gare in Champions League per year, of which 16 are free-to-air and the remainder via streaming pay through the Mediaset Infinity platform.
