It had never happened before and it’s not a good record: for the first time no Italian boxer manages to qualify for the Olympics. The Italy of boxing – which in the medal table of the Games of all time is in fourth place with 47 total podiums – had always been present at the Olympic appointment starting from Antwerp 1920. In Tokyo it will not be like that.

The blue Aziz Mouhiidine engaged in the quarter-finals of the category up to 91 kilograms was defeated 5-0 by the world champion, the Russian Muslim Gadzhimagomedov. However, Mouhiidine needed the passage to the semifinals to remove the Olympic pass. The Italy of boxing in Tokyo, however, will certainly be present to women with three athletes, Giordana Sorrentino in the 51 kg, Angela Carini in the 69 kg and Irma Testa in the 57 kg. At the end of the qualifying tournament, however, Salvatore Cavallaro could be fished out based on the ranking but in the ring no Italian managed to win the pass.
