Via the videos that praise the crossing of the Channel aboard the rubber boats. According to Skynews, Britain’s Interior Minister Priti Patel has asked social media to remove videos of immigrants that have gone viral from platforms. On Tiktok one of these videos has reached over 800,000 views. But there are also others on Instagram, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook that advertise fake visa and passport services. “The posts promoting and even glamorizing these deadly crossings are totally unacceptable,” thundered the minister. “These videos are exploited by traffickers to promote their business.”
At the beginning of the year, Undersecretary for Immigration Chris Philp had met with representatives of major social media companies but in the end less than half of the removal requests submitted by the British National Crime Agency were accepted. The number of migrants who have crossed the Canal so far has nearly doubled from the same period last year, with over 3,100 people reaching the English coast in late May.
