Single center-right party? Tajani: “No merger between Lega and Forza Italia”

Simple alliance, federation, electoral coalition or single party with a lot of fusion?

The Italian center-right is wondering about its future, after the proposals of Matteo Salvini and the telephone calls between the latter and Silvio Berlusconi.

Antonio Tajani, coordinator of Forza Italia, spoke about the situation and the hypotheses in an interview with Il Messaggero.

“Berlusconi said ‘let’s see’, ‘let’s examine’. Salvini is our ally and it is normal and natural to discuss the allies’ proposals. We will evaluate, we will see. Then the Forza Italia bodies will make the decisions”, explained Tajani. Adding: “Certainly the center-right must be as wide as possible and greater coordination is needed within the government and in Parliament to make the liberal and reformist line prevail by going to the Council of Ministers with common positions. Pd and 5Stelle already do it : I think this is the way to go “.

As for a possible merger, Tajani stresses: “No one has ever talked about a single party and this issue is not on the agenda. Berlusconi has only put forward the idea of a large center-right party, including Meloni, for the future. things remain as they are and there will be no single party: the symbols, the parties, the organizations, the locations will remain different. In short, Forza Italia will remain: the hypothesis of merging with the League does not exist “.
