The Capitoline junta has approved a memorandum to allow the pedestrianization of via dei Fori imperiali on an experimental basis for one weekend a month.
The goal is to start with the new structure in July 2021. The initiative can also be carried out in conjunction with other events such as ViaLibera. Subsequently, the experimentation will also include a new pedestrian itinerary from the Forums to the central node of the Termini station.
“We experience this pedestrianization for at least one weekend a month, substantially by extending events such as ViaLibera to Saturdays, thus increasing the spaces dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, in the name of active and sustainable mobility”, declares the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi.
“Our goal is to gradually arrive at a new structure due to via dei Fori Imperiali, also experimenting with the alternatives of viability and public transport with which the city will have to be ready for the start of the construction of trams and metro C on Piazza Venezia. It is in line with the provisions of Pums, which represents our vision of mainly pedestrian and cycle use of the areas with greater historical, archaeological and architectural value, starting from the central area of the Forums.“, Adds the deputy mayor with delegation to the City in Motion, Pietro Calabrese.
