The Capitoline Councilor of the Lega Davide Bordoni in a joint note with the municipal councilors of the IX Municipio Alessandra Tallarico and the group leader Piero Cucunato talks about the closure of the Museum of Roman Civilization.
“After an inspection carried out in recent days in the area where the majestic Museum of Roman Civilization is located, which extends over twelve thousand square meters of exhibition space, we were stunned by the state of abandonment in which it is located. The neglect is felt starting from the sumptuous main colonnade between uprooted toponymic plaques, waste and the iron barriers left to delimit the museum area that is no longer accessible: the museum has now become a symbol of Roman incivility.
Although the internal restoration work has begun to bring the facilities up to standard, this flagship of the municipal museum system that had owned unique collections has now stopped since 2014. We will convene a Budget Commission – the councilors announce – the Museum continues to remain closed while the pieces of the collections it kept enrich other Capitoline museums without the possibility of an equal cultural exchange because in fact the Museum of Roman Civilization is treated like a warehouse from which to draw and that’s it.
A real damage to the city, because this institution welcomed thousands of visitors a year and was a point of reference for archaeologists and students, a real jewel of the capital today sadly humiliated and abandoned “.
