Centinaio (Mipaaf): to make young people aware of PDO-PGI excellence

A Qualivita webinar in collaboration with Mc Donald’s

Rome, May 3 (askanews) – “In this historical moment we need to team up so that the excellence of our country is protected, but above all enhanced in the best possible way. This initiative serves to take stock of the situation and for a comparison with McDonald’s which can be a privileged interlocutor of the new generations “. This was underlined by the undersecretary for agricultural, food and forestry policies, Gian Marco Centinaio, participating in the webinar “PDO and Igp meet the future – Sicily Region”, organized by the Qualivita Foundation, Origin Italia in collaboration with McDonald’s.

“Very often – the undersecretary recalled – institutions find it hard to get some messages across. Generation Z has a great deal of expertise on the environment, less on Italian agri-food excellence or consortia. This is why we must work to make young people aware of the quality products of our country. And an important and global player like McDonald’s can become a vehicle for information and – as has already happened in the past – be proactive on certain products. The task of the consortia, together with the policy, is that the quality remains high, and to make known to a vast and heterogeneous public also agri-food products that unfortunately are sometimes not valued. The Region of Sicily, among its many excellences – finally recalled Centinaio – has Modica chocolate, the only PGI in Europe. I am convinced that we must all help these excellences to be protagonists, not only in Italy, but also in the rest of the world ”.
