The sports doctor, the only defendant in the trial for the death of the former Fiorentina captain, was accused of manslaughter
Professor Giorgio Galanti has been sentenced to one year in prison, suspended sentence, in the trial with shortened rite for the death of Davide Astori, former Fiorentina captain, who died on 4 March 2018. Galanti, sole defendant, era accused of manslaughter for two certificates of suitability issued when he was medical director of Sports Medicine at the University Hospital of Careggi (Florence).
The sports doctor was also sentenced to payment of a provisional for damages for a total amount of one million and ninety thousand euros of which 250,000 for the partner of the football player Francesca Fioretti, 240,000 for his daughter Vittoria, the remaining 600,000 for the parents of the Viola captain, Renato and Giovanna, and for the brothers Marco and Bruno. The motivation of the sentence within 90 days.
Astori was found lifeless on the morning of 4 March 2018 in his hotel room in Udine while he was with the team, a few hours before the championship match against Udinese.
