COLD FACE IN ACTION – Cold air of arctic-maritime origin has crossed the Alps following a north Atlantic perturbation, forming a minimum of secondary low pressure on the upper Adriatic. The cold branch of the disturbance is bringing generally weak phenomena between the Triveneto and Emilia Romagna with snowfalls up to low altitudes on the Eastern Alps / Prealps and northern Apennines between 300 and 700m. The hot branch propelled by very strong libeccio winds which reached gusts of 90km / h over Tuscany, is carrying instead showers and thunderstorms on the lower middle Tyrrhenian side and at times on Sardinia. The phenomena related to the western front began already in the second part of Saturday with significant accumulations of rain on Tuscany which already reached peaks of 60mm in the Pistoiese and 50mm in the Prato area. From midnight, however, the greatest accumulations were recorded between Lazio and Campania with peaks of 30mm in the province of Latina and 40mm in the province of Salerno.
VERY LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE NORTH: icy awakening for the Northwest which, due to clear skies, has seen widespread frosts, still present at 9:00 on Piedmont and partly also on Lombardy with values up to -5 ° C in the Turin and Asti areas. Cold also in the rest of the North with values no higher than 2-3 ° C in Emilia Romagna and no higher than 4-5 ° C in the Triveneto. Clearly milder climate in the Center South which, thanks to the libeccio winds, has seen night lows above 10 ° C with peaks up to 14-15 ° C along the Tyrrhenian coast.
EVOLUTION – Over the next few hours the situation will become more tangled because cold air will begin to flow into the Mediterranean also from Rhone Valley stimulating the formation of a second minimum of low pressure on the Tyrrhenian Sea which will act in unison the one on the Adriatic side. The expansion of the depression area will lead to a greater diffusion of the phenomena that will also affect the central regions while the North, except for Veneto and Friuli, will remain protected. The further lowering of temperatures it will also favor a decrease in snow altitude, which may still fall to low altitudes in the eastern Alps and up to hilly altitudes in the center and part of the south. forecasts for the next few hours:
