Young and talented, the saxophonist Jacopo Taddei (in the photo) and the pianist Luigi Antonio Nicolardi form an unusual and captivating duo which, intertwining the sounds of saxophone on the piano, leads to the discovery of little known music. The title of their concert “Sax and the City” (which wisely alludes to a well-known TV series) has become the ad hoc heading that allows them to lay out the best of the repertoire. For “Milano Classica” – Saturday 4th December at the Liberty building –, Taddei-Nicolardi thus play between styles opening with Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in blue” (arrangement by Jun Nagao) and proceeding with Fritz Kreisler (Praeludium and Allegro in the style of Gaetano Pugnani), facing the nineteenth-century virtuosity of Francois Borne ( Brilliant Fantaisie sur Carmen) to pass to the contemporaries Gianni Iorio (“Days of March”), Graham Fitkin (“Gate”), Andrea Dulbecco (“A folk tune”) and Jean Matitia (stage name of the French Christian Lauba who dedicated the piece to Federico Mondelici & Arno Bornkamp). The melancholy tinged with virtuosity of Pedro Iturralde’s “Pequeña çzarda” ends.
