Milano – Monday 22nd November 2021 at 20.00 al Teatro alla Scala in Milan the last appointment of the cycle of Autumn Concerts of the La Scala Philharmonic. The main conductor returns to the podium Riccardo Chailly to direct two romantic frescoes that capture the reflections of nature: the Symphony n. 3 Scottish by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, of which Chailly conducts the London version of 1842, and Symphony no. 6 Pastoral by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Milano – Chailly approaches and relates two romantic masterpieces for their ideal vocation to make the symphonic genre the expression of an ideal path, the contents of which were however all to be defined. The romantic feeling of Mendelssohn he had to lead the composer to find the right solution to the problem even in a landscape, naturalistic typology. Hence the idea of a Symphony Scottish, as of a Italian, whose objectives are certainly not descriptive, the results of which are not folkloric.
Milano –Also the debate on the value to be attributed to the program of the Pastoralit probably originated from an ambiguous nature of the Symphony. Beethoven he fell in love with the daring and experimental project of composing a Symphony looking for a style between the ancient and the modern, embarking on a radically new path for him too. Aware that his project was not easy to understand, the author took pains to add in the manuscriptmore expression of feeling than painting. Since then, criticism has swung like a pendulum between strictly hermeneutic readings and the denial of any relationship between musical form and poetic descriptions.
