Two years of warnings were not enough to ensure that Atac complied with the provisions of Ansfisa, the national railway agency, on the MA200 trains which from Thursday 11 November will not circulate on the Rome-Lido. To add to the ears, now even the Lazio Region takes over, with a note issued in the last few hours to Cotral, Astral and Atac, in which it urges the latter to take action on ordinary maintenance. A note, that of the Lazio Region, which arrives a few weeks after the passage of the Roma Lido to the management of the regional companies Cotral and Astral.
“ANSFISA has revealed a series of shortcomings in the documentation transmitted by Atac relating to the maintenance of the convoys of the MA200 fleet and has ordered the decommissioning of the same”, reveals the Region, commenting on the Ansfisa provision of last November 2.
According to the note, “ANSFISA highlights that the trains can be put back into operation only after having complied with the requests for integration formulated by the Agency and identifying the compensatory measures to be applied to replace the lack of 2nd level cyclical maintenance activities”.
What does the Lazio Region ask of Atac
In the regional note, Atac is called to take action as soon as possible on the maintenance of the MA200 trains of the Rome-Lido, as requested by Ansfisa, and to communicate to the Lazio Region the timing, which measures will be adopted to cope with the situation and the railway operating program on the line, in light of the decommissioning of the convoys from 11 November.
Even the Rome-Viterbo trains are not up to standard
During some checks, the Region also highlighted serious maintenance deficiencies at the Civita Castellana plant of the Rome-Viterbo railway on the Firema and Alstom trains, 17 in total involved on the line.
In addition to the impossibility of detecting the maintenance and revision plates of the brake devices, the following shortcomings can be learned from the note: “the rim wheels shown do not have the markings aimed at detecting the sliding between the plate and the rim; the serial numbers of the air tanks are affixed with chalk; the impossibility of carrying out a visual analysis on the integrity of the chassis and bogies “, due to the accumulation of dirt detected on the trains.
To monitor the state of the Rome-Viterbo and Rome-Lido trains and railways, the Region therefore asked Cotral and Astral to engage in the management of the critical issues that could emerge from the passage of the lines from Atac to the two regional companies, scheduled for 1 January 2022, also asking them to verify that the transport company fulfills the safety requirements.
